Saratoga Amateur
Radio Association
Minutes
of the monthly meeting of February 13, 2002
The
meeting was called to order by President Rob Vance, N6ROB at 730 PM with
8
people present.
The
minutes of our January meeting were read and approved.
Several
people in the room told us their story of how they got started in ham
radio.
Rob
gave us a summary of the membership mailing.
We
currently have 26 paid members, and plan to contact the people who haven't
renewed.
Rob
announced that there will be a board meeting in March. He will be
contacting
board members to decide on the date.
It
was announced that we already have guest speakers scheduled for March,
April,
and May.
Our
speaker for the evening was Jim Maxwell, W6CF, Pacific Division Director
of
the ARRL
He
told us that the League is doing its best to handle challenges and
interference
to our bands. This is also a priority for Riley Hollingsworth at
the
FCC.
Unlicensed
part 15 devices are presenting challenges to the UHF bands,
especially
at 2.4 GHZ.
Jim
said that ARRL recently gave a ham radio presentation to the FCC, which was
well
received.
It
is hoped that this has made the commissioners and staff more aware of the
importance
of Amateur Radio, especially with respect to emergency
communications.
Jim
put an organization chart of the League on the board, and showed us a video
tour
of headquarters in Newington, which was recorded in 1992.
This
was very interesting, as it provided us with a good understanding of all
departments,
and showed how they work together to make up the organization.
There
being no further business before the association, the meeting was
adjourned
at approximately 9:10 PM.

by John Glass, NU6P, SARA Secretary for 2002.
